Newly formed Iowa folk duo, Weary Ramblers bring years of experience to the stage with award-winning songwriting and chemistry. Chad Elliott and Kathryn Fox showcase multi-instrumental performances with tight harmonies and great storytelling.
Fox started playing the piano when she was 5 years old, viola at age 7 while growing up in Wisconsin. Growing up in a musical family, she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in classical viola before touring with a fiddle troupe internationally. She has also played in back up orchestras accompanying the Beach Boys, The Eagles, Pharrell Williams, and Gloria Gaynor. She moved to Iowa in 2018 and teaches strings and piano tuning at SWCC as an adjunct faculty member. “When listening to Fox for the first time, one might wonder, how can a young woman make a violin sound so good?” – Cityview Magazine
Elliott learned to play the violin, trombone and sang in the choir at school. He knew music would be part of his life as a side hobby. While obtaining an art degree from Graceland University Lamoni, he learned to play guitar and write songs. Chad led his band Chad Elliott & the Redemptions (which have performed here a few times) before forming Weary Ramblers. In his 30 years he was released 25 albums, created paintings, opened an art studio in Jefferson, Iowa and released poetry and children’s books. He has worked with and shared the stage with artists of the highest caliber, including Odetta, Tom Paxton, Loudon Wainwright III, Ruthie Foster, Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, etc. “That man’s music is as honest as was Woody Guthrie’s.” – Smithsonian Folkways Recordings
Weary Ramblers recorded a 12 track album which released on streaming platforms on August 9, 2024. These songs are reaching Australia, South Africa, Alaska and beyond. It has been No. 1 on the Roots Music Report’s contemporary folk album [chart] for seven weeks straight.
